Naps Solar Glazing system (NSG systems)
For special glazed roofs, facades and atria, Naps offers large glass-glass (GG-type) solar laminates that fit into standard building profiles. They may also include an insulating air gap and/or laminated back glass. Normally the solar cells are spaced more widely than in normal solar modules, to provide increased light transmission.
There are no standard module sizes, as GG modules are made to special order for each building integration project, the size being chosen to fit the available space exactly. GG modules are designed, like all of our modules, to meet or exceed the environmental requirements of IEC61215 (equivalent to Ispra CEC503).
The glass on top is a water-white clear tempered glass. The cells are encapsulated using a special injected resin with a total thickness 2mm. The glass below the cells is usually the same thickness as the cover glass. It can be coloured or patterned if an opaque module is required.
We’d be happy to provide you examples of different colours and patterns. Please e-mail us.
The most common glass thickness combinations are 4+4mm, 6+6mm and 8+8mm, the choice being dictated by the module size and mechanical loading it must withstand.
Often the GG module is required to provide thermal insulation in the building structure. In this case, an 'insulating window' structure is added to the back of the lower glass. The Argon-filled or air space can provide a U value down to 1.1 W/ deg/sq m.
Where additional strength or security is needed, the lower glass piece may be replaced by a poly-vinyl-butyral (or PVB) laminated safety glass in either the standard or insulating window designs of module. Normally these modules are used in standard building profiles. They are compatible with standard edge sealants such as polysulphide.
Complete NSG systems comprise the specially-designed glass-glass modules, a suitable inverter (or inverters) and all the main electrical installation components, such as DC connection boxes, array cables, etc. They do not include the mounting profiles, which are normally sourced from standard building component suppliers.
