Charge Controllers
Naps has two charge controllers designed for use in boats, the MMobile and MaxPower. The basic function of a charge controller in a boat system is to optimise charging and prevent over charging of the battery.
MaxPower – Gone are the days when the battery was dead just when it was most needed!
The MaxPower charge controller has a built-in-booster that gives the highest possible power from the module when it is most needed, for example when the battery is empty. This booster is called the ‘maximum power point tracking charge’ method.
Another benefit of using MaxPower is that a one module system can be very easily expanded by connecting a second module in series, without having to add new cabling between the modules and MaxPower.
Key features of MaxPower:
- Ensures a full recharge
- Easy to expand later
- Maximum power point, float and boost charging modes maximise the power
- Allows the module to deliver a higher charging current than a controller that connects the battery directly
MMobile – Start with one module and an easy-to-use controller
MMobile is a modern microprocessor-based series charge controller especially designed for small 12-Volt solar electricity systems on boats, caravans and recreational vehicles. It has a 7 Amp series charge control circuit on a lacquered electronics card and an enclosure made of corrosion-resistant painted aluminium. A front panel mounted LED indicates battery status.
MMobile’s solid state charging circuitry provides fast and accurate charging and keeps batteries fully charged whenever possible. It gives flooded lead-acid batteries an additional boost charge for improved recovery from deep discharges, thus enhancing battery life. The MMobile is particularly suited to boats and vehicles of 100 Watts of solar modules thanks to its own low consumption of the electrical power it produces.
Key features of MMobile:
- Adjusts the charging voltage for ambient temperature changes which results in full charging during the winter without fear of overcharging during the summer.
- Automatic boost charging
- Suitable for sealed and open batteries
- Low current consumption, own current consumption during winter is only about 6 mA, i.e. about 4 Ah per month.
