Naps Solar-Powered Obstruction Light (SPOL) Systems

The Naps Solar Powered Obstruction light (SPOL) system is a reliable self-contained light system designed for airports and signalling potential aviation obstruction in telecom towers, bridges and other high structures. The light of our SPOL system is aviation red and the system installation time is fast - a few minutes only.

We have made the SPOL systems for stand-alone operation and easy installation. We have paid very careful attention to the construction: these systems are able to keep your maintenance costs to a minimum, thanks to their special design for the harshest environments and their ability to perform efficiently without any regular maintenance visits.

The SPOL system's main components are an ultra-low-consumption, very bright, red aviation obstruction LED light, a system controller, a solar array and a battery. During the daytime the solar array charges the battery via the controller and during night-time the system controller automatically activates the obstruction light and draws power from the battery.

System operation
The Naps MiniPro-OL controller switches on the LED light when it gets dark and switches it off again when it becomes light again. This ‘dusk till dawn’ control uses the solar module as the light sensor, and typically the light will operate for about 30 minutes to 1 hour longer than the actual length of the night, depending on local conditions.

Normally the light operates continually when on, but our MiniPro-OL controller can also be set to flash the light at a fixed 2 seconds on and 2 seconds off duty cycle. If two lights are used in flashing mode, they can be flashed alternately by connecting each to one of the two output circuits, so that one light is always on and one is always off. If the battery falls to a low state of charge, only one light is operated. The same size of standard system can either operate one light continuously or two lights in this alternate flashing mode.

Standard SPOL systems for two light options (10 and 30 cd nominal output) provide attractive solutions for obstruction light requirements for most parts of the world. The operating temperature range of the systems is -25°C -> +50°C and the warranty time for the whole system is 3 years.
