Naps Systems supplies 296 solar powered obstruction light systems (SPOL) to Qatar

Naps Systems has delivered the first 58 systems of a series of 296 to the Electricity and Water Company of Qatar, a company responsible for power generation and transmission in Qatar. Naps Systems’ SPOL systems are to be installed on the top of pylons of a high voltage transmission line.

The construction of this 400 kV high-voltage transmission line is under finalization and the Naps Systems’ SPOL systems are used for air traffic warning.

238 more systems will be delivered during first half of this year to equip a 68 kilometres long transmission line with 60 m high pylons.

“This wide scale project strengthens Naps Systems and its partner Technolight position as a market leader in the field of SPOL systems’ design and optimization. It is expected that more clients of the calibre and quality of Electricity And Water Company of Qatar will order from us in the near future, says Jyrki Leppänen, Sales Director at Naps Systems.”

“One of the competitive advantages of Naps Systems’ SPOL Systems lies in the rapidity and ease of its installation, their extreme reliability. One should also consider that solar powered obstruction lights require no parallel low voltage transmission line for supplying obstruction lights, no time-consuming application for obtaining construction permits, no maintenance costs… if that would not be enough most SPOL systems are installed close to high voltage transmission lines, which protects them from vandalism and theft” continues Jan Wasastjerna, Naps Systems CEO.

SPOL systems operate independently of the grid infrastructure. The obstruction lights connected to the solar electricity system use LED technology which drastically reduces the system’s energy consumption.
